Call of Juarez: The Good, The Bad, and the Unforgiven

December 30, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

Just when you thought Westerns were dead in the desert, Call of Juarez shows up with a story line that borrows elements from the old Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns and more than a dash of the more recent The Unforgiven. This kind of source material compels you, as a gamer, to follow the plot turns eagerly and to anticipate some great bloody gunplay.

Cabela’s Trophy Bucks: Passes the Buck

December 30, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

Cabela’s Trophy Bucks is exactly the kind of game that gives parents the willies. Not only are real looking firearms involved but also you are shooting at objects that are not soulless aliens or heartless mechs or thoughtless cartoon creations. No, you are firing high-powered rifles at Bambi or Thumper or Peter Cottontail.

Blue Dragon: Draggin’ the Blues

December 30, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

Blue Dragon is a reasonable extension of Final Fantasy from the Japanese RPG library. There really is nothing new about this nine-character game except perhaps the assignment of class skill sets to each character. Graphics are what has been seen before, quite along the lines of anime. The Xbox 360 platform is underutilized and the story line is less than compelling.

Blitz: The League—Unlicensed and Over the Top

December 30, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

You can bet that the real NFL stars are playing this thinly disguised, unlicensed version of pro football, as we all know it actually occurs. Midway has gone ahead without the previous licensing agreement with the NFL so attempts have been made to accentuate features other than the player recognition factor. Potty mouthed trash talk, sexual side games, and player hi-jinks on and off the field are some of the over the top features Blitz: The League trots out for your indulgence.

When the sequel to an already good game seeks to improve on the original, the makers had better add new features to the game play and create additional visual acuity. Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WW II does exactly that. Ranging far around the globe, you will find top-secret missions, in the process combating the Nazis with the help of a beautiful spy and your squad mates.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars—A Big WOW!

December 30, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

This third installment of the Command & Conquer series has all the bells and whistles of the previous two, namely real time strategies, tremendous graphics, and furious battles. Unrelenting action will keep you scoping the environment for enemies as the new opponents, the Scrin join the GDI in attempting to thwart Kane (played again by Joseph Kucan—creepy) from gaining access to tiberium, now the technological key to the future. Mass Effect for Xbox 360 Game Review

Mass effect is an offering from Microsoft Corp. Like some other stellar software produced by this giant, Mass effect is a work of well crafted art. It will cost you $59.99 to buy if you decide that it is your thing.

This is a game about a complex galactic plot that throws surprises at you every now and then. The storyline is intense something fans of Star Wars and Star Trek should revel in – that should be about half the world I think.

Rock Band For Xbox 360 Game Review

December 20, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

This game is an offering from MTV Games and is available at a price of $58.99. If you have ever dreamed, like me of being a rock star, this is your chance to live out your fantasy. This is among the best party games I have played, and believe me I have played many.

For those who have enjoyed Guitar Hero, this game takes that enjoyment to a whole different level. The reason is this; Rock Band is not about a solo guitar, it is about a rock band – guitar, drums, bass and vocals. It is a cooperative effort. This is what brings the added excitement into the game.

TimeShift for Xbox 360 Game Review

December 16, 2007 | Filed Under Game Reviews | No Comments

Timeshift, the long awaited game from Sierra is finally here for the Xbox 360. It is available at a price of $49.99 on Amazon.com. Is this game worth the wait? In my opinion, not entirely.

The story begins around Dr. Krone who gets a suit in his possession that can let him travel through time. Messing with time is dangerous and due to this an alternate reality has been created. Remember “Back to the Future”?
