Armored Core 4: Stylin’

Mech games are usually all about the outfitting of the machines and the strategy for certain situations. Armored Core doesn’t skimp on the number of parts and weapons (SEGA says there are 200) that are available to you as you garner money from successful missions. You will then buy from a dizzying array of parts and armor and can keep them as a schematic that can be called up later. As you take on missions, you will begin to learn that specific armaments are useful and you must be outfitted beforehand. This is most of the fun of Armored Core 4.
The initial missions merely takes you through the firing mechanisms and mobility issues but as the missions grow more difficult, you will find that you have to play each mission a few times to get the idea of how your mech should be geared up. While a bit frustrating, you will employ more sophisticated strategies and schematics as you figure out what is needed to be successful.
Where Armored Core 4 falls down is in the representation area. The graphics’ blandness is off-putting and the backgrounds are devoid of color, making the whole experience less than satisfying. If you like the gear head aspect of mech games, Armored Core 4 is for you. If you like exciting missions and interplay, try something else. Armored Core 4 online is a more satisfying game than single player mode only because you can mostly ignore the lower quality graphics.
