World in Conflict: Soviet Assault for the Xbox 360 Game Review

July 20, 2008 | Filed Under Game Reviews |

Not ones to rest on their laurels, developers Massive Entertainment are working with Swordfish Studios to bring the genre-defining RTS game World in Conflict to the Xbox 360.

The first thing that attracts one’s attention when the game opens is its detailed control scheme. Mapping a complex RTS game with its multiple menus, objective lists, unit selection etc. can be a daunting task but Massive Entertainment has done a remarkable job at dumbing down the whole thing to make it console friendly. In the beginning of the campaign mode, all you need is the A button to progress, select units, move and attack.

There are advanced user options available as you keep progressing through the game. First timers will be able to pick up the game easily. Unit selection in the game has also been simplified. Using the direction keys on the D pad, you can switch between teams of vehicles or troops and also select your groups. The minimap function has been eliminated.

Voice support in the game provides players with tactical aid and to order reinforcements. The visuals are great and can be paralleled to the PC graphics. The explosion noises too are pretty realistic with the whole jing-bang with it.

Published by Sierra Entertainment, the game promises to live up to the hype and speculation surrounding it.
